Matt Luizza is a recent PhD graduate from Colorado State University. In his own words “My passion is bringing local and indigenous knowledge to the forefront of conservation planning, through collaboration with rural communities and land managers in East Africa and the United States. Seeking to protect ecosystem resilience while preserving livelihoods, my research integrates community knowledge of the landscape with geospatial sciences to map environmental assets and understand their vulnerability to climate change and invasive species. The ultimate goal of this work is the promotion of collaborative conservation efforts that are centered on knowledge co-production, adaptation, and empowerment of local communities.”
