Join the School of Environmental Global Sustainability and the Office of International Programs in celebrating the life and legacy of Diana Wall at the sixth annual International Symposium.

Diana Wall was a world-renowned soil ecologist who tirelessly dedicated her life’s work to understanding the creatures that live in the soil below us. While her true passion was nematodes, she was a proud champion of all soil creatures, fighting for soil biodiversity globally.

A celebration of her extraordinary career and global impact will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, in Lory Student Center Ballroom D, with a reception to follow.

The event will feature remarks on Wall’s profound contributions, including founding the Global Soil Biodiversity Initiative and collaborating on international policy for soil biodiversity. She was an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences, a Tyler Prize recipient, SCAR President’s Medal recipient, Soil Science Society of America Presidential Award recipient, CSU Distinguished Professor, director of the Natural Resource Ecology Lab (NREL) from 1993 to 2006, and inaugural director of the School of Global Environmental Sustainability (SoGES) at CSU. Her extensive research in Antarctica led to a valley being named after her: Wall Valley.

Several esteemed scientists from universities around the world will talk about Wall’s work, research and influence in the scientific community. Speakers include Wim van der Putten (Netherlands Institute of Ecology), André Franco (Indiana University Bloomington), Peter de Ruiter (Wageningen University), and Kelly Ramirez (University of Texas El Paso).

There will be a panel discussion and time for questions before the reception begins. For those who cannot join in person, there is an option to join virtually
