Designated
as a Program of
Research and Scholarly Excellence (PRSE) by Colorado State University,
the Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory has for more than 30 years
provided scholarly leadership and mentoring to future ecosystem scientists. NREL
provides students with a unique opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary
research programs that address many of the ecological challenges of
this new Millennium.

Graduate
Study at NREL
-
The Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory
is a center for research, rather than an academic department. As
such, the laboratory provides research opportunities, supervision
and support for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Degree
Programs are offered through the Graduate
Degree Program in Ecology or through other CSU academic departments.
How
to Apply for Graduate Study at NREL
-
Students applying for admission to
an NREL graduate study program will need to satisfy the Graduate
School admission requirements as well as submit a letter
of application to the Laboratory's Director. Financial
aid is available to many of the NREL's students through a variety
of scholarships, fellowships and research stipends.

"The
NREL has through its relatively brief history been among the
elite research institutions in ecosystems science. This success
derives largely from the close working relationships among students
and between senior scientists and students at the laboratory.
The NREL fosters an open exchange of ideas among scientists with
diverse backgrounds and research interests that often is not
available in traditional university departments. My closest professional
contacts and most enduring views of the conduct and theory of
ecology were developed while at the laboratory. All four of the
graduate students with whom I shared office space at NREL are
highly-successful and influential contributors to their disciplines
in ecology."
