There are lots of prestigious grants and fellowships that graduate students can apply for in order to support their research. Many NREL graduate students have applied for these awards, so ask around before you apply.
The Warner College of Natural Resources offers a course, NR555 "Preparation of Grant Proposals", which can help you put together a research proposal to submit for funding or for your committee.
